Don’t Go Petition

Posted @ 5:26 PM on August 1, 2008 by Eric Odom

United States Congress,

On August 1st, 2008, We The People were hoping to see our Congress take action to relieve the burden of high energy costs for American consumers. As you know, sky rocketing fuel prices are causing stress on virtually every aspect of our lives. It is the duty of our elected representatives to find solutions.

However, the events of August 1st, led by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her Democrat Colleagues, have shown that many of our representatives are putting self interests before the welfare of the American people. Indeed, the Democrat majority in Congress shut down Capital Hill before holding a vote on the energy bill. In fact, the majority leadership appeared to take extreme measures to stifle any and all discussion related to energy on the House floor, including shutting off lights, cameras, and microphones to ensure that our Representatives’ voices would not be heard by the public.

We find this to be an outrage, and an insult to the American democratic process. We strongly urge you to remain in session until votes have been cast on energy legislation. As our elected representatives, it is your duty to serve the citizens of this great country, and we expect you to do your jobs with the dedication and perseverance most American workers demonstrate each day with their own jobs and families. We call on you to immediately convene a session and provide a respectful bipartisan forum to make progress on one of the most important problems facing our country- a lack of energy independence.

Finding a solution to our energy crises is a priority for us. There for, we demand it be a priority for you as well.

Signed,

One of the rare times Congress actually has a chance to do something positive, and Nancy Pelosi, Mark Udall, & Co. run away!

If we spent a fraction of the money being spent on the Iraqi “war,” on new alternative energy infrastructures (solar plants, hydrogen fueling stations, tidal hydroelectric plants, research and development initiatives, etc. we could much better position ourselves for future energy crunches such as this.

This is not only effecting our personal pocket books, but it is wreaking havoc on our national economy. If our airlines, auto manufacturers, and shipping industry start to buckle it could take a generation to recover from this, if ever. This should not only be looked at as an uncomfortable economic situation, but as a matter of National Security!

Scott Bothwell in Cody, Wyoming proudly signing on. Drill here; drill now, so we the taxpayers you care so deeply about can pay less! The President has so kindly asked that you do your part and open the coasts to off-shore drilling. He LED by example and lifted the Executive Order prohibiting it. Gov. Palin (R-AK) would love to see drilling in ANWR. Opinion polls are now showing a growing majority of Americans want domestic drilling to be a solution to high energy prices. WE CAN drill our way out of this. The solution is not taxing the oil companies into higher consumer prices; it is getting out of the oil companies way and letting them do what they do best: drill for oil, refine it, and sell it.

  34. sam thurber @ 9:39 am

Dem’s = Party of the people? My butt. The only excuse the D’s have offered is that it will be years before the oil hits our market. And they use this excuse to delay drilling even more? That’s not stupid, it’s insane. For the love of God, DRILL NOW!

PS There are platforms off the coast of California that could be in production within 1 year of lifting the moratorium. Those were built before the moratorium was put in place. So the D’s excuse is not only insane, it is also a LIE.

The American citizens are the “boss” here, and if the boss says no vacation, our elected officals should stay and work. What boss allows employees to go on vacation during a crisis? Vacations are postponed or canceled during a crisis, no matter where you work. It should be no different with government. Abandoning their posts as representatives of American citizens for the sake of their own interests, is not serving American citizens as they promised to do. It is only serving to give all of them a bad name and sending a selfish, undedicated message to the American people. Suck it up and get back on the job. Vacations are rewards earned for work well done… Being able to afford a vacation, doesn’t mean they deserve one!

I agree we need to explore off-shore drilling and tap the land in anwr that was already set aside for development. What sucks is that it probably wont happen unless the GOP can take back the House and Senate in November. It would be pointless to force a vote now because the democrat controlled congress would shoot it down in a heartbeat. If the Republicans can take back control in November it would be much easier to pass a better bill that would benefit the people.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have been qouted saying they want to starve the American people of oil, to end the use of it completely. They are socialist, eco-terrorists progress cannot be made until they are out of office.

Send Madam Pelosi back to Econ 101 - demand requires supply or rationing will result (by price, or by government [ remember that silliness that Jimmy Carter put us through?]). More supply means lower prices, less dependence on foreign oil, and less exporting US energy jobs.

It seems likr representative have forgotten that they are there to represent the American people not big oil and Nancy Pelosi should be
recalled from her office entirely. She has no business representing the people with her outlook and high handed measure to make it her will and not the will of the American people. Who does she think she is? REcall her.

Keep up the good work! Standup to the environmentalists who currently control the Democrat party and our country’s energy policy. We need to develop all economically viable energy sources. When will congress understand that if ethanol is not viable and does not need subsidies when gas is $4.00 a gallon and oil at $120.00 a barrel, it is not ever going to be viable as a mainstream energy source? Shouldn’t we be eating our food products? Drill, nuclear, water, wind, coal, natural gas, solar … do them all if they can stand on their own!

The last time I checked we were still a government “of the people” and “for the people”. It’s called a democracy, not a dictatorship. It is embarassing and shameful behavior from our government officials. Ms. Pelosi, you work for us. We pay your wages. Where I work if you don’t do your job you are fired. Now do the work of the people and the will of the people or soon you and your friends might be seeing alot of pick slips coming your way. Drill here, drill now to keep us going while we develop all the other sources we should have been doing all along. Let the free market do it’s job. It’s the American way and it works.

As congress panders to the extremist left, immune to the high cost of energy because taxpayers pay for theirs, America bears the burden on their budgets and sacrifice so congress doesn’t have too. This must be what Barack Obama means by ‘You will be expected to sacrifice for the common good’ or maybe that should be ‘for us elites, so we don’t have too.

Republicans in the House, thanks for having spine and foritude to carry out the will of the American people. Unfortunately, your Democrat counterparts are too slimy and self-serving to put America first. Their first priority is their sustaining their own power to try to lord over us “common” people.
